CityCard Spotlight: IAO Gallery
On Today’s Center Stage – IAO Gallery
IAO Gallery – one of our member agencies – recently moved to a location on Film Row (706 W. Sheridan). It is definitely worth a trip to check out the new gallery space and their rotating exhibits.
I’ve been out to IAO a few times for special events and I’m never disappointed. Apparently other people agree as IAO was voted best art gallery by Oklahoma Gazette readers last year.
This weekend, IAO hosts the Red Dirt Improv group tonight at 9 pm and the Final Sunday Film Screening at 7 pm (on Sunday - of course!).
Check out IAO’s Web site, www.iaogallery.com, for all upcoming events (there’s something nearly every day!). CityCard holders receive 20% off IAO ticketed events, including the Red Dirt Improv show.

A typical Red Dirt Improv scene at IAO. Check them out tonight at 9 pm!

CityCard Spotlight: Momentum
Today’s CityCard Spotlight is on the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition (OVAC) as they gear up for their annual action-packed event, Momentum: Art Doesn’t Stand Still. This year’s event will be held on March 5th and 6th, 2010 at the Goodwill Warehouse in downtown Oklahoma City. Momentum is an art show and sale like no other. Highlighting Oklahoma artists ages 30 and younger, the event is packed with compelling visual art, new film and video, animated performances and live music.
Artwork for Momentum was selected from submissions by more than 100 artists. Oklahoma artists Amber Farnell, Geoffrey Hicks and Delvie McPherson were chosen to receive $1,750 Momentum Spotlight commissions and will exhibit these projects for the first time at the event. In addition to viewing outstanding works of art, patrons will take in the tunes of local bands, including Jonbear Fourtet, New Plains, An Old Timepiece, The Mean Spirits, Ghosts and DJ Kelly Trance, and hear Spoken Word from artist Lauren Zuniga.
Use your OKCityCard to get 2-for-1 tickets to Momentum! They are $10 in advance and $15 at the door and are available at Blue 7, Full Circle Bookstore, Velvet Monkey Salons, Guestroom Records (Norman & OKC), Dwelling Spaces (Tulsa), or right_here.

The Art of Dating - Single in the City Date Auction!
Single and ready to mingle?
Oklahoma Magazine - one of Allied Arts' media supporters - presents its second annual Single in the City philanthropy event at Skky Bar at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Attendees can expect an evening of music, drinks and food and a fashion show highlighting the latest styles available in Oklahoma City. All event proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
But perhaps the most exciting part of the night will be the date auction. Guests will have a chance to bid on 12 of the city’s most eligible singles while donating money to a great cause.
And we’re particularly proud because several of the participating singles are from the arts community! Be sure to go to the event to bid on: Kristen Vails (Executive Director, Plaza District Association and Visual Artist), Kim Haywood (COO, deadCENTER Film Festival) and Crystal Wellman (Ballet Dancer, Oklahoma City Ballet).
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. To purchase advance tickets or for more information call (918) 744-6205 or visit http://www.okmag.com.

Take in some art this weekend to add color to these dreary days. It will be a breath of fresh air!
CityCard Spotlight: Collected Thread
On Today’s Center Stage – Collected Thread
Collected Thread is a store packed with handmade/vintage craft and art items (think Etsy.com in Oklahoma). The store is trendy in a naturally cool way (does that make sense? you’ll get it when you see it).
Last time I was there, I picked up a fantastic baby gift…a cute onesie that says “Home Grown”. They also have clothes, jewelry, home décor, stationery and MORE.
I can’t rave about it enough – it’s definitely worth a pop in. Plus, it’s in a very up-and-coming location on 16th street near Lyric at the Plaza.
Ok – you get it…I think Collected Thread has some really cool stuff. You totally will too! And CityCard holders get 10% off. Check out a preview of the store at www.collectedthread.com.
Check out the pic below…really similar to the one that I bought. And the head band was totally something that I wanted...I'll have to go back in to get it!

CityCard Spotlight: Iguana Mexican Grill
On Today’s Center Stage – Iguana Mexican Grill
Bailey and I joke that we have eaten our weight in queso at Iguana Mexican Grill. It’s so true – with your CityCard, you get FREE queso each time you eat at Iguana. And Iguana’s queso is TO DIE FOR.
I feel like many Oklahomans take queso for granted. When I lived in LA and Chicago, you were hard pressed to find queso anywhere (even at Mexican restaurants). And in Oklahoma, we get it for free!
To attempt to not make this post all about queso, I must also say that Iguana has amazing EVERYTHING. Their tacos are my favorite, but I know Bailey likes their Sunday brunches and checking out their daily specials.
Plus, their atmosphere is so freaking cool (perfect to show-off to out-of-town guests) and their staff (led by chef Ryan Parrott) rocks.
