Oklahoma Premiere of Chasing Light
Stop me if I’ve told you this – but it’s one of our blogging goals to keep you all updated on as many arts activities as we possibly can, big AND small.
Well, one of our member agencies – the Guy Fraser Harrison Academy is hosting a concert this Sunday (March 7th) that is sure to be fantastic.
The Oklahoma Youth Orchestra, Oklahoma Youth Philharmonia and Symphonic Winds ensembles will perform the Oklahoma premiere of Joseph Schwantner’s Chasing Light at the Civic Center at 3 pm.
In researching this post, I was amazed at how lucky we are to have local students perform this piece. NPR Music did an entire story on Chasing Light, as it is part of the Ford Made in America program.
Here’s how NPR described Chasing Light and Ford Made in America: “It's helping to bring new music to orchestras that normally couldn't afford to commission a piece by an internationally recognized composer like Schwantner. But, by banding together, 58 of them, ranging from small professional ensembles to college and youth orchestras, now have the opportunity to play something written just for them.”

I hope you can make it out to the event, especially considering that Guy Fraser is one of a select few orchestras that will perform this piece!
