Thursday Night is Pie Night

Lindsay McIntyre - Wednesday, August 11, 2010

The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is hosting an old fashioned pie and ice cream social to honor its members.

Members and their families are invited to the museum for Paintings, Poetry, and Pie at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12.

Along with gobbling scrumptious pies and ice cream, members will feed their minds during a poetry reading by noted poet and author, Dr. Ben Myers, associate professor of English at OBU.

And, guests will sample a bit of country, a pinch of rock-and-roll, and a nibble of bluegrass while listening to folk-music duo Ed and Karen Pettit of Oklahoma City.

Not a museum member? You can join during the pie social and enjoy the festivities. Family memberships begin at $50. You can also join online at www.mgmoa.org/membership.

The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is located on the campus of St. Gregory’s University, 1900 W. MacArthur St., Shawnee.

For more information about this event or museum membership, please contact Tonya Ricks at tsricks@mgmoa.org or 405-878-5604. For general information about the museum, please visit www.mgmoa.org or call 405-878-5300.

Mabee-Gerrer is one of Allied Arts fabulous member agencies. We're proud to have them in the Allied Arts family!

Anyone know who produced the above pie painting? Props to whoever comments with the answer!

No Face Left Un-Painted

Bailey Gordon - Monday, July 26, 2010

This weekend was full of hot weather and heavy-hitters for Allied Arts as we manned a booth at the World Cup of Softball here in OKC.  We provided free face painting to kids of all ages and met families from across the country that ventured to the heartland to watch world-class softball.

Here are some of our face paint masterpieces:

One of the smallest Team USA fans, this little girl was decked out in her red, white and blue to cheer on her team!

Some really spirited fans asked for their entire faces to be turned into softballs.  Here’s one of my works-in-progress.

The Jennie Finch fans were out in full-force! Everyone wanted to catch one of her last games and wish her well before her retirement.  This little girl was sure to be noticed with her red face that boasted Jennie’s name and her number, 27.

The tournament concludes today with games at 4 and 8 pm.  Visit www.usasoftball.com for tickets and cheer on Team USA!

Bailey Gordon - Thursday, July 22, 2010

Scooter lovers, this is your lucky day – "Rally on the Row" is back at IAO!  This annual scooter exhibit and fundraiser will feature classic scooters, scooter-related art, films and performances.  But that’s not all! Prairie Gypsies and other fabulous restaurants will be catering and you’ll hear some great music throughout the night.

The event will be held this Friday, July 23rd from 7-11 at the IAO Gallery space (706 W Sheridan in downtown OKC).  Admission is only $5 and all of the proceeds will benefit contemporary arts programming at IAO.

Here’s one last coo for the event – IAO is selling raffle tickets so that you could win a sleek, beautiful, brand new Vespa LX150!  Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.  They’re on sale now at IAO Gallery or at Vespa Oklahoma (the lovely business that donated the scooter).
