#Momentum11

Bailey Gordon - Tuesday, March 01, 2011
If you're an avid twitter user, you may have seen #Momentum11 flying around your feed. That's because Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition's high-energy art show Momentum: Art Doesn't Stand Still is happening this Friday and Saturday at the Farmer's Market!

Momentum highlights artists under the age of 30 who are making a name for themselves in the Oklahoma art scene.  Along with 2D and 3D pieces, young artists get to show their talent through performance art and live music.  You'll also get to see three commissioned works that are just for Momentum and participate in the interactive art piece.

Tickets are only $10 in advance and $15 at the door (what a steal!).  You can buy them at Blue 7, Full Circle Bookstore, The Velvet Monkey and Guestroom Records.  Plus, you can get them 2-for-1 with your OKCityCard!

To see a full line-up of artists and bands, preview the pieces or purchase tickets online, click
here

Take a look at last year's event and see why this show is unlike any other!

I personally can't wait for this show. Tweet @ovac and tell them how excited you are for #Momentum11!

Christine Sefolosha Art Show & Sale

Bailey Gordon - Thursday, February 03, 2011
Hello, arts friends!  I have a special invitation for you to attend an art exhibition and sale tomorrow night featuring artist Christine Sefolosha at JRB Art at the Elms. A portion of the night's sales will benefit Allied Arts.

Christine's paintings and monoprints are a can't-miss for art enthusiasts.  Does her name sound familiar to you? That's because Christine is the mother of Thunder star Thabo Sefolosha!  A native of Switzerland, Christine has traveled to Oklahoma to support her son, and we couldn't be happier to have her here.

We'd like to thank Joy Reed Belt and Christine Sefolosha for generously donating a portion of the proceeds from this event.  Hope to see you tomorrow night!

Who’s got cabin fever?  I know I do!  Although the icy roads made for an adventure this morning, I am happy to be out of the house for the first time in over 48 hours!  If you’ve had enough of sitting on the couch, watching TV, playing card games or whatever has gotten you through this blizzard, get out and get into the arts this weekend!

Here is a list of events for the weekend that were scheduled pre-snow.  Please call before you head out the door to make sure the event is still on!  You can find the phone number by clicking the link to the member agency’s web site.

2011 Campaign Kick-Off

Bailey Gordon - Friday, January 28, 2011
On Wednesday night, we officially kicked off our annual fundraising campaign for 2011!  Allied Arts leadership, volunteers, donors and member agencies gathered in the Meinders Hall of Mirrors at the Civic Center Music Hall to celebrate the occaision.

We enjoyed mingling with 300 of our closest friends as everyone came together for one goal - drumroll please - to raise more than $3 million for the arts in Central Oklahoma!  With amazing leadership like Campaign Co-Chairs Ed Martin and Brenda McDaniel and Honorary Chairs LaDonna and Herman Meinders as well as all of our dedicated volunteers, we are certain that this challenge that will be met.

We'd like to thank our member agencies that provided entertainment for the evening: Oklahoma Children's TheatreOklahoma City Ballet and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.  Each of the performances were beautiful and inspiring!

To see more photos from the Campaign Kick-Off event, visit our Flickr page.

Now that the campaign has officially begun, you're probably wondering how you can get involved!  Volunteer with us by emailing volunteer@alliedartsokc.com.  More information can be found on the volunteer section of our web site.  You may make a gift by clicking here (you know you need that magic money-saver, the OKCityCard!).  Find out more about our donor benefit levels, Circle Club and Catalyst by clicking the links. Questions about more ways to support the arts?  Leave us a comment and we'll answer!

Thank you for your continued support of Allied Arts.
We look forward to a bright new year and raising more money than ever before for the arts in Central Oklahoma!
