A Very Merry Pops
It's the most wonderful time of the year! Can't you feel it? Well, not when it's 70 degrees outside, but soon the cold weather will blow in and we'll all be in the holiday spirit. And who's here to help ring in the season? The Oklahoma City Philharmonic!
Next weekend, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic will kick off the holiday season with A Very Merry Pops! This show is fun for the whole family - dancing Santas, elves, carolers and the fantastic sounds of the Philharmonic.
A Very Merry Pops will run from Thursday, December 2nd until Saturday, December 4th at the Civic Center Music Hall. Click here for ticket information. And, don't forget, you can get 2-for-1 tickets to a performance by using your OKCityCard.
I also want to give a shout out to our friends at Chesapeake Energy for being the presenting sponsor of this show. The arts are lucky to have such a great supporter!
Check out this video to see what's in store for you at this fun-filled show!
Black Friday (Cue Ominous Music)
Turkey, family, friends, parades, football, good times - it's Thanksgiving week! And after the turkey cutting and feasting is all said and done, there's only one thing on most women's minds: Shopping!
Black Friday is synonymous with great deals, early mornings, hectic stores and crazy traffic. Personally, I get overwhelmed with the craziness and have yet to participate in Black Friday festivities (for all the shopping I write about, you'd think I'd be up at 4 am with the best of them!). This year, I think my shopping habits will be different, because our fantastic OKCityCard partner Collected Thread is joining in the Friday frenzy. Think about it - 20% off all merchandise, no mall traffic, locally made gifts, free coffee from Coffeeslingers and free mini cupcakes from another fab CityCard partner, Cuppies and Joe. Plus, the store opens at 9 am, so you don't have to roll out of bed in the middle of the night to get the good deals. Now that's my kind of shopping!
Check out a few of these photos - you know you want to shop Collected Thread this Friday!

You might need to pick up a new laptop case for that stylish student in your life. Or, if you're like me, just get one for yourself and say, "Merry Christmas to me!" You deserve it!

Look how cute these baby shoes are! I'll be an aunt (again) in February so I'll have to pick up a pair of these!

Wow – only one week until Thanksgiving! Get your fill of the arts before you fill your belly with turkey. OK, that was a bit cheesy even for me. But really, you can go ahead and start your holiday shopping now by visiting City Arts Center’s Annual Pottery Sale. You can also get in the spirit of giving with Mabee Gerrer Museum of Art’s A Promise of Home exhibit. So much to do before the hustle of the holidays arrives!

Lumos! Bright Night of Harry Potter!
ATTENTION: MUGGLES! In case you haven't been watching your television or reading a newspaper, it's Harry Potter week! I must admit, I've been excited about this for quite some time. Part I of the film for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is being released this week, and Science Museum Oklahoma is rolling out the red carpet for muggles, witches and wizards alike.
Join SMO for a Bright Night of Harry Potter! Attendees will practice spells, play quidditch AND see the movie in IMAX on opening night. Not to mention, they get to stay the night at Science Museum Oklahoma. Sounds like a magical time to me!
Check out this flyer below to get all the details. And, call quick if you want to secure your favorite muggle a spot! This Bright Night is sure to fill up fast!

And - for those of you that have already watched this 18 times like I have - you can see the trailer one more time right here. As if you needed any more enticement to go to a Bright Night of Harry Potter...
An Award-Winning Board President
Ann received the Community Service Award for her long-time service and leadership in arts organizations across Oklahoma City. Not only does she serve on the Allied Arts board, she is also active on the boards of City Arts Center and Canterbury Choral Society. Ann is a valued member of the arts community here in Central Oklahoma, and we are proud and honored to have her as our leader.
Following the ceremony, we held a reception to celebrate Ann's achievement. Below are a few photos of the guests who came to congratulate her.
Joy Reed Belt, a local gallery owner with the woman of the hour, Ann Johnstone (check out that medal!)
Allied Arts President Deborah McAuliffe Senner with supporters Anne Gray and Joan Maguire
Bob Zahl, Don Resler, City Arts Center Executive Director Mary Ann Prior and Canterbury Choral Society Executive Director Kay Holt were also among the guests that offered their congratulations

CityCard Spotlight: The Girlie Show
Now on to money-saving, heart-stopping, girlie shopping things! Today's CityCard Spotlight is on an art show with a curve - none other than one-of-a-kind The Girlie Show!
This art show is just a big girlie party! But not in a bad way (for you men who are reading this and hoping your wives won't drag you to another pink, lace-filled craft show). I say it's a big girlie party because all of the artists and crafts-women are girls. Yep, no boys allowed. These fine female artists will offer jewelry, clothing, housewares, knickknacks, art and more. And, please, get those creepy dolls in crocheted dresses out of your heads. That is not what this show is about. It's all about attitude, funk and creativity. What's more, there will be live music and lots of food to eat from some of the area's best bands and restaurants.
The Girlie Show is this weekend only - Friday night and Saturday from noon to 5 pm at the Oklahoma City Farmer's Market. What YOU need to know is that your OKCityCard will get you 2-for-1 admission on Saturday! So, load up the girls and get 1/2 price tickets to the show!
For more info on how to purchase tickets, visit http://thegirlieshow.net/. You'll also find a list of participating artists, restaurants and bands that will get you excited for the show.
Here's a preview of some things to shop from two of my close, personal friends:
Find t-shirts, baby gifts, accessories and other cool things from Lindsay Zodrow of Collected Thread.

Local is for lovers, anyone?
Plus, the lovely Jessica Chamberlain will have things for sale. Check out this handmade necklace from decktout housewares and decor.

Don't miss your chance to buy the girliest and best goodies in Oklahoma at The Girlie Show!
Ghoul Wild with Young Patrons!

Are you ready to GHOUL WILD?! It's that time of year again - all the spooks and skeletons are ready to march down Broadway in the Oklahoma Gazette's Ghouls Gone Wild Parade! Since we have such a prime location here on Automobile Alley, we'd like to invite our art loving friends (that's you!) to join us for a watch party. We'll be hanging out here in our office and on the rooftop patio here at 1015 N Broadway this Saturday night. |

Time Warp!
Opening tonight and running through Saturday, October 30, this show will run Tuesday through Saturdays. Instead of a matinee performance, Lyric is catering to the night owls and offering a midnight showing on Saturday nights. Sounds creepy to me!
Lyric promises that this will be a rocky ride that you won't want to miss. So, use your OKCityCard to grab those 2-for-1 tickets, head over to the Plaza Theatre and LET'S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN!!
Members of the cast and Lyric friends flash mobbed Bricktown! If you know what I look like, you'll see me! If not, I guess it's a little like playing "Where's Waldo," only minus the red and white stripes. Thanks, Lyric for allowing me to pretend that my life is a musical for one evening! It was a dream come true!
