Kicking off another great year

Well, we're at it again! We kicked off our annual fundraising efforts on Tuesday night with 350 of our great donors, volunteers and friends. This year our goal is to raise $3 MILLION - more than EVER - for the arts in Central Oklahoma, and we're really excited about what those funds could mean for our cultural community. Think about it...
- $25 admits FIVE high school students to see a play.
- $50 exposes TEN elementary students to their first orchestra concert.
- $180 provides as at-risk student with TWO semesters of dance instruction.
- $250 offsets the costs for an ENTIRE classroom to tour an art museum.
Even $5 goes a long way, and your ONE gift supports TWENTY of Central Oklahoma's oustanding arts organizations ensuring an exciting and thriving cultural community for all of us.
Our theme this year is "I Heart the Arts" and we're encouraging everyone to think of all the ways and reasons you love the arts. Do you love listening to the radio on your way to work each day?...Seeing the masterpieces your kids create at school taped to the refrigerator door?... Dancing to the music at a Thunder game? Or maybe it's your favorite movie, video game, dress, building, book or play. ALL of these things are impacted by the arts. So...Why do you "Heart the Arts"? Tell us! Or join us on Twitter @AlliedArtsOKC and use #HeartTheArts. Or visit us at www.AlliedArtsOKC.com to make a donation.
We're so thankful. Thanks to everyone that joined us for the celebration on Tuesday! Thanks to the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the OK City Chorus, Campell Walker Fields and Eddie Walker, and Oklahoma Children's Theater for your beautiful performances! And thanks to everyone that is working hard to make this year a success! This isn't possible without you.
Campaign co-chairs, Tricia Everest and James Pickel, with 2012 Honorary Chairs Bob & Jeaneen Naifeh and Barry & Becky Switzer. Great campaign leadership for 2012!

Check back here for more on this fella's performance. Outstanding job by Campbell Walker Fields!

Collected 3
This weekend, one of our OKCityCard partners is celebrating their birthday in a big way. Collected Thread is hosting Collected 3, a birthday bash like no other, this Friday and Saturday night in honor of its third anniversary. Collected Thread is a handmade boutique that houses beautifully made items. This store is committed to promoting the work of local artists and designers, with more than half of its merchandise made by locals here in OKC.
Here’s the great thing about this party – everyone’s invited! They will give away cupcakes from Cuppies and Joe on Friday night during LIVE on the Plaza coffee from Café Evoke on Saturday (did I mention that both, Cuppies and Café Evoke are also OKCityCard partners?). There will be T-shirt and tote bag giveaways both nights as well as a raffle for gift baskets filled with some of Collected Thread’s best stuff. Plus, for every purchase of 3 items or more, 20% of your ticket will go to the Plaza District Association.
Speaking of giveaways, we’ve got one for you right now! The lovely Lindsay Zodrow, owner of Collected Thread, has given us this super cute heart sweatshirt dress to give to one lucky winner. Entering is easy, just post your comment below and we’ll choose a winner at random on Friday morning. The winner can pick up the dress at Collected Thread (1705A NW 16th St). With a handmade dress by Fluffyco, the winner will be dressed perfectly for the party!

Since Collected Thread supports local artists by carrying their work, here’s your question:
What’s your favorite thing about the local arts scene here in Central Oklahoma?
Comment with your answer below for your chance to win!
It's Story Time!
Hey, folks! Do you like hearing a good story? What about one that's funny, or sad, or even scary? You'll find it all at the Oklahoma City Storytelling Festival coming up September 9th and 10th.
Our friends at the Arts Council of Oklahoma City are pitching a tent in their yard and hosting some of the best storytellers in the country. Join these tellers in the tent for family fun during day and early evening performances. But when the sun goes down, be prepared to be spooked during Late Night Ghost Stories.
You don't have to just sit and listen during this festival. There will be workshops in addition to the performances so that you can learn how to hone your storytelling skills from the best in the business.
Here's another great thing about the Storytelling Festival - you can get 2-for-1 admission with your OKCityCard! Visit the Arts Council of Oklahoma City at 400 West California, downtown, to pick up your tickets.
Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind festival! See you under the tent next weekend!

First Friday Art Walk at The Paseo
City Arts Center is now accepting enrollment for fall classes. There are so many to choose from – drawing and painting, photography, pottery, weaving and more. Use your OKCityCard to get 15% off and go learn something new!
And, don’t forget to use your OKCityCard this week to buy your tickets to the Oklahoma City Storytelling Festival put on by the Arts Council of Oklahoma City. You’ll receive 2-for-1 admission to the festival happening Friday and Saturday, September 9th and 10th.
Meet You at the Fair
You can experience the excitement of the fair without breaking the bank with your OKCityCard. It will get you 2-for-1 advance gate admission, but you must plan ahead in order to get the discount. This offer is valid through Wednesday, September 14th at the State Fair Arena Box Office when you present your OKCityCard in person.
Here's why you should use your OKCityCard to purchase your gate admission:
- It frees up more of your Fair budget for food!
- You won't have to wait in the ticket line at the gate, meaning more time for riding rides and seeing the animals and arts and crafts exhibits.
- You can use your 1/2 price admission to see the free concerts at the Chesapeake Energy Stage. In the past, I've seen awesome performances by Hanson, Boyz II Men and MC Hammer (I'm not sure what that tells you about my taste in music). This year, my personal concert must-see list includes Eli Young Band and the Village People. See the full concert line-up here.
We'll see you at the Fair!

My girlfriends and I have a State Fair tradition - we all get giant corn dogs and plastic jugs of root beer. You can't beat it! I'll be heading over to the box office to pick up our 1/2 price tickets so that we can keep our tradition alive!
